Rockaway Township is the largest municipality in Morris County, spanning over 45.6 square miles. The township has a total population of approximately 23,000 and is 35 miles west of New York City. Newark International Airport is 35 minutes away and the Mid-Town NYC train station is located in the nearby towns of Dover or Denville. Dwyer, Dennis B. O'Brien, Katherine D. Malone and Stony Brook. Copeland Middle School serves grades 6 through 8. Students in grades 9-12 attend Morris Hills High School in Rockaway Borough or Morris Knolls High School in Rockaway Township, depending where in the township they live. The high schools are part of the Morris Hills Regional High School District, which also serves the residential communities of Rockaway Borough and Wharton.

The Rockaway Townsquare Mall is located in Rockaway just off of Route 80 and Mount Hope Avenue. The mall is anchored by Macy’s, JC Penny’s, Lord & Taylor, Target, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Best Buy, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and numerous other specialty stores.
